What is Stopping You
from Learning Chinese?
Most of us now know
about the benefits of learning a second language. Improved career
prospects, a better social life and more interesting travel prospects
are just some of the possible advantages which we can get from learning
how to speak a second tongue.
Add in access to a
burgeoning economy and an ancient and intriguing culture and we can see
why the Chinese language is one of the most popular for UK language
students these days.
Sadly, as well as the
many people now happily learning this language there are plenty more who
have put their dreams on hold. Why is this? Let’s take a look at some of
the most commons reasons for not carrying through with the idea of
learning Chinese.
It’s Too Tough
You knew that this
would be the first point, didn’t you? If you want to learn an easy
language then for English speakers one of the
Romance languages such as Spanish, French and Italian are likely to
be more suitable. However, we each find that a certain language exerts a
pull on our hearts and minds. If you would really like to learn Chinese
then you have already made a good start on doing it, as having the
desire and the drive to learn is the most important thing. Of course,
the Chinese language is a difficult one to learn and the lack of common
words is one of the big differences. What you should do is try to forget
about the difficulties and celebrate each step you take and each piece
of progress you make.
I’m Too Old
/ Busy
One reason a lot of
potential language students give for not making the effort to learn a
new tongue is that of their age. Being busy is another commonly stated
excuse. Actually, neither of these will be valid reasons for someone who
is truly motivated and who is willing to give it their best shot.
It’s Too Far
Away
You might think that
the only way of properly learning a language is to go over there and get
immersed in it. This is certainly a fine way of doing things if you have
the time and money but it isn’t viable for all of us. Instead we need to
find a way of doing things closer to home. Nowadays you can take the
Chinese lessons Manchester and other UK cities offer. What this
really means is that if you choose to
learn Chinese Edinburgh, Belfast or Coventry is about as far as you
need to go to find a native teacher. |
